Policies to reform the ability of benefit managers to profit from medication list prices and rectify misaligned incentives that lead to increased patient costs are critical to address their predatory role in our health system. Without action to advance proposals that would help patients better access the medicines they need, patients in Illinois and across the country will continue to be subject to pharmacy benefit managers’ “profit over patients” model. In the new year, Congress must act on reform.

Congress must not miss an opportunity to end HIV

Despite the Republican-led success against HIV, some House Republicans have been considering a spending bill that would cut funding for HIV prevention and treatment. Such cuts would not only lead to more preventable infections and deaths — they’d result in more long-term spending by American taxpayers. We have the tools to end HIV. We must not abandon our efforts nor the people and communities most impacted by this potentially deadly infectious disease.
