Letter to Delaware Governor Meyer in Support of Preserving PrEP and PEP Access
Governor of Delaware
Tatnall Building
150 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard South
Dover, DE 19901
Dear Governor Meyer:
The HIV+Hepatitis Policy Institute is a national organization promoting quality and affordable healthcare for people living with or at risk of HIV, hepatitis, and other serious and chronic health conditions. We write in strong support of House Substitute 1 for House Bill 200 and respectfully urge you to sign this critical legislation into law.
This bill protects Delawareans at risk of HIV by preserving access to highly effective pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) medications and related services without cost-sharing, prior authorization, or step therapy barriers.
This legislation is particularly important at a time when federal preventive health requirements have come under attack. By codifying these PrEP and PEP coverage protections in state law, Delaware will protect its residents from future federal changes while providing certainty for patients, providers, and public health programs. In doing so, Delaware joins a growing number of states, including California, Illinois, Minnesota, and Oregon, as well as the District of Columbia, that have acted to strengthen and preserve access to comprehensive PrEP and PEP coverage.
This legislation represents an important step in Delaware’s efforts to end the HIV epidemic. We strongly urge you to sign House Substitute 1 for House Bill 200.
